Chesterton compares the Declaration of Independence to
Christianity because he states the United States is founded on creed,
a summary of principles of the Christian faith.
He states it “…is set forth with dogmatic and even theological lucidity”
(pg. 7). In other words, the Declaration
of Independence is clearly based on religious beliefs, and it is arrogantly upheld
in spite of this as a document that purports freedom which is an oxymoron since
it ties its constituents to church beliefs.
I would agree with on this on point. I feel like so much is connected to religion and religious beliefs even until this day and age. Where many right wing individuals use religion to explain, or excuse their beliefs regarding abortion and gay marriage.
